The "skin tax" you speak of is primarily for idot travelers such as yourself who have no sense whatsoever of how to survive outside their home town. I used to live in the Philippines and never had any problems of this sort. Most Filipinos are actually very honest, but if you travel to a relatively impoverished area of the world and display an ignorance that almost begs the hungry locals to relieve you of your excess dollar bills, then you have it coming.

Not intended as an Ad - but for your info and enjoyment-
Thought you would be interested in this...
just want to let you know, DWSB 89.5 Subic Bay Radio is now live streaming. Just go to BayFM's blog http://turntheradioon-bayfm.blogspot.com, or if you want to directly go to the streaming.. http://www.ustream.tv/channel/895subicbay
schedules and news are still being developed. Keep in mind, they are a work in progress and new to this.
But it is the first radio from Olongapo or Subic that you can listen to from the USA or anyplace with Internet access.
The station is located at Subic Bay Naval station area.
The stream url and the Website, are different. So be aware of that.
Also.. there is an approx 12-13 hour difference in timeframe in the USA, so listen at an appropriate time if in USA.
Also note that it may take a minute or so to connect before you hear anything... so be patient. And if you register as a listener, you can live chat with them online as they play. (text mode). Hope you like and enjoy.
Regards.

I lived In Olongapo for a few years in the late 70's and early 80's, a few pictures are familiar to me like the JEST school I had a naval gunfire school which was across the road from it all others look new but a couple look like the old gate into town

I can see how you were duped by these 'so called' Police, but they are not Police. I must say I never saw these type of guys when I was there, and would definitely ask for Identification before I would pay anything like that. In fact not far towards the Expressway from the Jollibee you are showing there(which is between Subic Town and Olongapo), there is a Police Station. I mostly hired/Rented motorbikes, and you definitely are a target for the normal Police ! You will get stopped quite often (I was 6 times)and you need to make sure you have your International Driving Licence on you at all times!
