Hey! Face to us I cannot see your face. We are still in the Mountainside Road.
We will be on that road in a moment. Canna Lily.

Do not be afraid if you want to drive here

be happy until you take the 3 weeks

just don't look down. Tommy you will never

to come here and drive these Mountains.

They are mining Gold here they used

water pressure and digging the soil.

Mountain almost fall because of mining here. Whole Family eating Lunch besides the Water Falls..
Work crew Having Lunch in the Mountain spring... Inviting us to have Lunch with them. Beautiful Wild Mountain Flowers we from our June trip

north of the Banaue Rice Terraces

Loida points out the big Fern and an Ifugao Lady is drying

her harvested rice in the road as we are entering Banaue.

The famous and 8th wonder of the world Rice Terraces,

Banaue Ifugao. I Love it here, I don't want to go.

Overlooking the Rice Terraces. Wanna know where we are? Sari-sari store has an address below the name at Hingyon, Ifugao Province.
Kilometer marker Lagawe next Municipality 8 Km. more. Bridge leaving Hingyon.
OH! They make it more beautiful. Distance sign 25 Km. more to Lamut.
Municipalities we go through on the way to Banaue Distance sign.
Entering Barangay Baguinge, Kiangan Ifugao Province. Beautiful Water Falls along the National Highway.

Mountain Biker hard to climb... But Phil was having a great

our Nissan but after about 20 Kilometers we lost him in

time running with the Blue Toyota also with a 1300CC like

the bad roads and big trucks in the mountains.

Goat on the Top of the Gravel (maybe helping to make

concrete.) What he is doing? Oh!..  cleaning the drainage.

Leaving Ifugao Province,

Entering Nueva Vizcaya Province

Below Photos are from our

trip November 25 2006

Banaue Rice Terraces. Gravel road after downtown Banaue all the way through to Bontoc, Mountain Province.
River rock from a Mountain. Two boys from school below.
Student just came from school. Silver and Gold mine 1/5 of a way in is the boundary about 14K.
Sumigar bridge, people don't know how to put the right elevation on it. Mountainside road from high above looking down going to Mountain Province.

Tommy until you have driven these roads,

what driving fun is, this is the greatest thrill,

straight down on the other with no guard  rails,  and loose

boulders, landslides or the road itself has just fell

about 250 kilometers of them, you don't know

rock walls on one side and 2 or 3 thousand feet

gravel to drive on. You don't know where the trucks, large

down the mountain, the curves are sharp and often.

This is the Silver and Gold mines of people trying to find their treasure, but makes the road rather hazardous. Shot from the mining sites about 12 KM away, that's the road we just came around, it's dangerous but it is a lot fun.

These little Sari-sari's are run by the families of the miners

at the boundary between Ifugao and Mountain Province.

Welcome to Mountain Province from the Top of the Ifugao

Province boundary of the two Provinces.

It is fun driving here, Rough road started in Banaue all the

way through the whole Mountain Province, about 98 KM

But it is enjoyable, you will drive in the mountainside

road,  just don't look down it will make you dizzy because

it is about 5,000 feet straight deep down.

Still Gravel road after the Ifugao boundary.

About 98KM of rough rocky road with landslides

My husband(Dr.Constantino P. Carpio) and I, were medical missionaries in Kiangan, Mayaoyao and Kalinga. This was back in the 60's. We were from the UCCP church. We stayed at the Mission House in Kiangan while we worked out of the clinic beneath the high school. I am looking for former friends...Judith Dulnuan, Amy Binwag, Rev. Martin and his wife, Alice (I can't remember their last name) they lived in Bontoc then; the Famorcas, and the others whom we met in Mayaoyao and Kalinga. We stayed up there for 3 years. By the way, thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures here. Daisy Clarrisa S. Luna

Great pictures. My wife is Ifugao from Barangay Duit, Kiangan. We were just there in January and February for 5 weeks. It is absolutely beautiful in the mountain province. We stayed only 2 weeks in Barangay Baguinge, visited Banaue Rice Terraces, Kiagan, Lamut, Bayombong, Salona and even went over the mountains to Santiago City. Then we went to La Union for the other 3 weeks. I myself love all areas of the Philippines. My wife and I plan on retiring there in 1 to 2 years. Probably live around Salano or Bayombong. Great site with some great pics.

wonderful sceneries but some labels are wrong hehe, like the boundary between Mt. Province and Ifugao, that's Mt. Polis. That's the site of the illegal quarrying not a mining area, they like to bring down those huge mountains where the rare forest crab can be seen. Anyway its very nice.

I was in Banaue in April 2009, also went to Sagada, Kiangan and Lagawe (current hometown of my closest brod in college). It is place to visit. I had so much fun and would go back again. The scenery was awesome and breathtaking, as if you are in another world. The weather was comfortable. You guys should visit these places. Of course my big thanks to my brod Jing who toured us around, your camaraderie was the greatest. Definitely include these places to visit in your next travel to Phils. My daughters are visiting soon.

Thanks for sharing your pics. I came here in 99 and 02 and was incredibly blessed by the love of the people here. They are some of the most priceless and precious people I have ever met. This is a very beautiful place and I highly recommend visiting and staying for awhile. There is nothing like waking up here to the sounds of Banaue and especially when it is raining when you wake, its amazing - the smells, sounds , and most importantly the people. Thank God for the time I was able to spend here.

The gold mining that you claim to be taking place in the Mt Polis-Sumigar-Awan Igid area (Banaue)is but mere sand and gravel quarry. How I wish that gold could be found on those slopes. Surely, that mountain should have been a gold rush area like Mt. Diwalwal: the Ifugaos could have become a little affluent but Mt Polis should have become barren and degraded . Blame the government functionaries who don't know how to indicate the proper markings on a bridge. The truth is that the letters and numbers appearing in the picture of Sumigar Bridge refer to the kilometer reading; the letter L refers to the length of the bridge and the W is the width. Seemingly, the guys who wrote the marker are "ignoramoses" for not putting the elevation of the bridge. Right??? He he he ...

Very nice.., it really shows the real picture of the places. Beautiful places..;..so the local government and the people living in that place should join hand in hand in the development and improvement of that place that it may attract more local and foreign tourists that may contribute to a better economy of the community and the country.

Bro.Didacus Weber, I read your posting below and I can provide information regarding one of the person you mentioned below. Joaquin Binwag is my neighbor, a mile away from their house to be exact. Here's his address if you intend to send letters or greetings to him and his family, Upper Yakal Street, Lagawe, Ifugao 3600. I don't know of his circumstances right now since we migrated here in the USA back in 2004. Your last name is quite popular in our place. Otley Beyer is one those who wrote the history of Ifugao. Thank you for visiting our beloved place and province! For those planning for a visit also, do it during the months of march, april, may and june. These are the months of our yearly celebrations such as the Kulpi ad Lagawe, Gotad ad Hingyon, Kulpi ad Kiangan, Banawe Imbayah, Kulpi ad Asipulo, tungoh ad hungduan and the most promising the Ifugao Day which we always celebrate on the middle of June. These significant months gives you real experience and broad ideas on how Ifugao people live their daily lives. The activities include the staging of Ifugao cultures and traditions through the native dance, songs, chants and rituals. There is also the display of souveneirs like hand-made products like wood carvings, knitted products and native delicacies. And, don't forget to have a sip of our very own Ifugao rice wine(asipulo wine is the best so far to be fair). Ifugao wines were already available in many deparment stores nationwide and worlwide. For more info. contact or visit the Tourism Office located at the Provincial Capitol in Lagawe, Ifugao.

Around 1973 I was stationed in Calabayo City, Samar at Christ the King College in the capacity of Bursar. The Philippines is a beautiful country and her people the friendliest on the planet. Thank you for the pictures, not only of Calbayog City, but other areas of the Philippines that I had chance to visit while I was stationed there. While working in the Philippines I met and made some wonderful friends and for whatever reason we lost contact with each other over the years. If anyone would know of a family by the name of Joaquin Binwag or a Daniel Tayaban (not sure of the spelling) I would appreciate them letting me know. Joaquin Binwag and Danny Tayaban both worked at our Seminary in Novaliches, Quezon City back in the mid 1970s. I surely would like to write them and contact them again after these many years. They were and continue to be (even though I've lost contact with them) very close friends. I believe they are from Ifugao, more precisely Lagawe. Thank you again for rekindling many wonderful memories of my time in the Philippines. God bless and keep you in His care. Sincerely, Brother Didacus Weber, OFM Franciscan

I will be on vacation next month so I want to go back in Ifugao. Extend my regards to my tour guide JOAN. Maybe I can ask another chance for showing me the way. I love Ifugao, I also learn some of their language and their culture. One memorable experience was forming a long line to get to be served during a wedding. Joan said "Pila"maki "hamul."

Wow Ifugao!!! I always love my beloved province. I enjoyed viewing it. Pls. come to our town, Kiangan where you could experience an eco-friendly adventure. Welcome to our Barangay Ambabag where you could view the Mt Kapugan,Bae Rice Terraces, "Uhat", and you could see the capital town Lagawe as if very near to the sitio of Bae. In these Barangay, you could also enjoy hiking up and down, and love swimming at utuh waterfalls as this falls are visited often during summer.

hi i like the pictures u took but i do agree there are far more beautiful scenes there in ifugao to take photos and to that person hu just deliberately commented and told the owner of this site dumb, well didn/t really took much time seeing the pictures, merely like only checking the grammer. wat's the point, she didn't post it 4 u to check her grammar but to present what ifugao is. i hope u wont be too insulting next time. it is not beacause u can hide ur identity in the web world dat u could just say watever u like. anyway, am a college stud now...been away in our homeland and i miss it too much..if i had the time i'll sent some beautiful pictures of our beloved provinces soo. good day.

I appreciate your efforts in posting all those beautiful pictures you took from my beloved ifugao province. My 2 yr old son and I along w/ other family members went to visit our old folks in Namulditan, Hingyon last December 2007 but we haven't had a chance visiting those places you've been to due to our hectic schedule.I hope to spend more days in ifugao the next time we visit there.

I thank Loida for sharing all her adventures about my home town Banawe, however, there are more places in Banawe that are more interesting like the Batad rice terraces. These photos had concentrated only on what can be seen along the road.

Wow! you guys did a good job. I am from Aguinaldo, Ifugao. To all Tourist: If you happen to visit our beautiful province Ifugao ... your itinerary of travel should start from Lagawe-Banawe-Mayoyao-Aguinaldo-Alfonso Lista (Potia) and down to Santiago City back to Baguio City or Manila. Fred - "Ayapao" is my Ifugao name - means "on top"

Hi,this website helps a lot. ...The pictures, the way of writing, the comments-they always have a tint of the "being Ifugao" and I love it. There is really no place like home..and even online,Ifugaos will always type "Ifugao Province" and click the search engine.Anything about it will always help one away from home reminisce anything from childhood to neighborhood to schools to politics and to whaTEVER.We may always leave this province, yet we always look back at with smiles and joy in hearts.

Wow!!!!! first of all, i would say thank you for your efforts. I don't expect that upon browsing my internet, i was able to see something that reminds me of my childhood. I studied in Ifugao Academy and transfered to Don Bosco High School. i later came to hongkong where i always remember my school days. when i saw that picture "welcome to Baguinge" i am reminded of my best friend Astrid Malanta and my best friend in Lagawe Yolly Buyog. How i wish one day, that God will give me the chance to visit them so that i can visit Ifugao again. Thank you for all the beautiful pictures.

I Love the Ifugao Province and it's beauty, Hope that the officils both in local and National will give effort to maintain the rice terraces as it is, Do not let the local people to destroy it because it is one of the most popular tourist spot in the Philippines.
