	I miss tacloban. I missed my family there, wherever i feel so sad,i've always find the place of tacloban and to check the beautiful places there most specially Gaisano Mall. I've not been there for a long time. I spent more than 52thousand pesos (52,339.00)to be exact on clothing and some other items for their house, and on top of that another 8,000.00 pesos at the groceries. When i asked the baggers that i need an extra plastic bags, they refused, they need an approval from the supervisor; and when i talked to her explaining what i needed...just a simple plastic bags, all she answered me...was...it cost so much money for the labor and if i need it bad i have to pay for extra. Told her i just spent so much money here in your store and you don't accomodate me what i need. I refused to pay for a plastic bag. how about if i returned everything what i bought here after spending more 62 thousand in this store....There will be no next time...i will shop somewhere else that has a good customer service. However, there are some very adverse comments which is upsetting to read, which I would like to address. Firstly, this is the Philippines we are discussing....not Davenport Main street in Florida, USA, and neither is it Leicester Square in London UK, come on guys...the country here is magical, its a totally mind blowing experience!! I know as I am building my own house here in Southern Leyte, (6 ft from the Ocean) and my intention is I will die here .........the costing is pittance compared to European and US levels....so stop comparing, enjoy this awesome country, I promise you if you open your eyes you will find a wonder EVERY day you are here, so calm it down and tell the world how fantastic the Philippines are. For a old guy like me......a NON Pinas guy....it offends me to read small minded people whining about the conveniences here compared to the more modern countries I agree that its behind with toilet papers and silly things like that.....and the water isn’t as sanitary as it could be, but so what??...this makes it more magical..and after all....water purification is easy..so why gripe...(excuse my pun) My advice to you sour grapes out there is to learn to enjoy what is here in the Philippines ...or go home! Friday, December 26, 2008 at 08:39:37 PM PST We should worry about germs.That's true.But we also have germs in our own homes and everywhere.About the toilet in Gaisano, it is probably true (I've never used their comfort rooms) but try going to some of the Makati rest rooms or even the rest rooms in the airports.They are filthy too.In fact some of those rest rooms in the mall, you have to bring your own toilet paper now.Even abroad, rest rooms in the rest areas are filthy, smelly, no toilet paper sometimes.We should not complain too much about the absence of a lot of amenities in the Philippines.We should get used to it by now.Be glad we have toilets. The locals call it the mall. I found the store a joy to shop in... Everything you could want was available there.... Yes, seems like there was more employees than customers, but that is thier system, it works for them, and you should respect that.... I do. The staff was courteous and helpful, even giving discounts on items. As far as all the gaurds and police in the city, yep... lots of them.... I counted about 50 per block... Did you not notice that you were safe? The police and gaurds were very courteous and helpful, they also made sure that customers personal firearms were checked in at the entrance of the stores. Street and sidwalk conditions took a bit of getting used to, but why knock it... just watch your path and step up or down as required at the level changes... The locals sure do not get taxed like we do here for road and sidewalk repairs and construction... revenue is generated from business,and port taxes. Stay home in Texas where you belong.... I liked Tacloban, and the people. I was very welcome there and made lots of friends.... but then again, I respected them, and thier city, country, and language. The local language was Warey Warey, but they were thrilled that I respected them enough to speak Tagalog with them. I plan on going back there to live, and have a happy life, maybe with a girl I met.... Hope I don't meet you there... I love these place. Just advice for bad commenters, Travelling is an adventure, never expect it to be just like "home." Toilet papers and toilet covers are not a common sight in public toilets in the Philippines, thats considered very wasteful, Filipinos wash their asses with soap and water, then shake your wet hand dry if theres no towel. One things is certain, even if our bathrooms look gross, we don't walk around with stinky butts. It's a waste of time complaining, wherever you go there are good and bad, when you travel you must expect that and always try to find the good things, coz there are a lot of it. Tacloban is a nice, friendly, safe and warm. I see a lot of foreign nationals waking around the street alone, i talked to some,, apparently they live in Tacloban, they chose to retire there.
