Bontoc is a nice and beautiful place. I remember when I went in the year 1981 to conduct training/seminar at Minsitry of Public Works and Highways drivers and operators. It was a big feast given (Engr. Ernesto Reyes), RES, BOE. Also, I remember a Foreman from the District Office who gave me a stone to be used to sharpen bolos or knives. Also, another Foreman from Halsema Road that gave use sacks of Potatos and cabbages going home to La Union. . Those were the days I was in Region I, MPWH, RES, BOE. I learned also a song from one of the employee with the title of the song"Nan Layad Nen Likatan" which I can still remember to sing the lyrics. I will always sing that song if there ar Diversity activities in the United States. Is there any CD for this song? On our way to Bontoc before it was raining and our car hasd a problem and one family approaching Bontoc offer their help and hospitality and we went to their house dring the mountain tea. It was so good. My campanion that time were Mr. Filemon Caoile and Ignacio dela CruZ of DPWH, Bauang La Union, Region I. Thank you so much. Those were the memories in my visit to Bontoc.
These are all nice pictures which we can treasures as a remembrance in visiting Bontoc. I hope when I go back to the Philippines I can visit Bontoc again.
regards to all Employees of RES, BOE, DPWH, Bontoc, Mt. Province.

The pictures are great but only shows a small part of Bontoc or the Mt. Province for that matter and there are much to discover.
My Dad is from Samoki thou I hate to admit it I have only been there about three times and I plan to change that soon. I have fond memories of the place, the food (pinikpikan with inasin will always be number one to me) and how warm the people there, heck I even have an Isamoki name "Wakat". What I like most about the place is the Ifontoc Culture that is very much alive and I hope it continues to be so even with the onset of progress.
Try a family picnic on the banks of the Chico it will be a great experience or try the mountains just watch your rubbish please.
I just hope the authorities find away to make traveling there a lot easier I mean the Mountain Trail on its current state please! The people of Mt. Province Deserve better!

Good afternoon. Although I am not a native of this place, Bontoc, I used to be there I think twice, to accompany a friend of mine who was working with the Department of Agriculture. During my 2-3 days stay there, I hadn't had the chance to explore the place. But thank you for the pictures you've posted. I've seen some of the photos in person and boy, it's only now I came to realize the beauty of Bontoc and appreciate it. Thank you very
much.(no).

We lately visited our beloved hometown Bontoc with my boyfriend and some friends from Manila. It has changed a lot. Progress is not bad.
We were very lucky growing when Bontoc was not too populated. We enjoyed the freedom of staying late at night with no one to fear.

hi... the pitures are great eventhough the way they are taken is not quite good. Bontoc is really improving very fast that sometimes you cannot already imagine how was it look like before, not only the structures that are changing but also the people itself. whatever the things we observe in Bontoc is part of how we constructed our reality as Ifontoks, remember that ure is constructed and this construction is shared by the community, so changing this reality takes a very slow and long process since it is already part of our system. for the people who says that ifontoks are boastful, please reflect on what basis you say that we are boastful and reflect also on the lifestyle of the ifontoks in relation with the term "boastfult." thankz...
anyways, thankz MS. Loida for the pictures, i really love it....

the pics are great and they remind me i need to visit my hometown. you should have taken pics of a junction road going left when you went to banaue, it's can-eo, the long lost barrio of bontoc where my parents love so much that they prefer to live than in trinidad. u will find the junction on your left before you reach talubin, the last barrio of bontoc when going to banaue. its got great scenes too nice for pics.

BOASTFUL MIGHT NOT BE THE RIGHT TERMINOLOGY, PROUD BONTOC PEOPLE SURELY DESCRIBES THE "IFONTOKS" AS I KNOW THEM.
IT IS VERY EASY TO CRITICIZE AND POINT FINGERS TOWARDS OTHER PEOPLE, BUT REMEMBER THAT WHEN YOU ARE POINTING ONE FINGER TOWARDS ANOTHER PERSON, 3 FINGERS ARE POINTED TOWARDS YOURSELF!!
LOIDA, THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR PICTURES, I REALLY ENJOYED THEM, THERE ARE A LOT OF CRITICS IN THE WORLD WHO ARE TOO QUICK TO FIND THE WORST IN THINGS AND PEOPLE, YET, THEY HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW FOR THEMSELVES, KEEP THOSE PICTURES COMING, WE, HERE IN THE STATES LOVE LOOKING AT THEM! THANK YOU AGAIN AND GOD BLESS YOU.

Every where in the world have boastful people. Bontoc is our place. Why criticize? Much better to motivate them positively rather than insisting boastful words without doing something. Bontoc someday will become a first class town that we can be proud of.

Life may not always become what you want them to be,
The road you lead may have some u-turns involved,
Do not fear,
For change can be good,
Follow your path that was laid out for you,
The sun is now shinning,
You can now see your path
There is a plan, a destiny that awaits you,
Do not question your destiny,
Do not ask questions such as “why me?”
Accept the path that has been laid in front of you.
Do not be afraid,
Take one day at a time,
Be proud of who you are,
Walk with courage and your head up high,
Believe in yourself,
Focus on the positive,
For the footsteps imbedded in ground of your new path will become the solid foundation to you future.

Peoples in Bontoc are really boastful and I will not retrieve my statement regarding that matter. Though not all were of that kind, majority of them was. This is not to insult the people living in Bontoc because I myself is an "ifontoc". This is for us to change our bad attitudes and it's purpose is to remind us that we are being judje as such. It is not just people from the Cordilleras who are saying this but also people from other parts of the Philippines. Yes it's true that we are real nice peoples, we cater tourists coming to our place with soooo much hospitality, but we should also observe and improve this bad things which are obvious to us. TY

To my fellow kakailyans who said that we ifontok are boastfull are totally wrong.Pls. do not judge everybody through the wrong doings of the few people you meet.Keep in mind that Every place is not being occupied by perfect people. We here in Canada are proud of being an Ifontok.Anyway, many thanks to you Loida for posting some of the pictures of Bontoc since we are using some of it in our programs and magazine. If you don't mind, pls. take some more pictures like the view of plaza, capitol, museum, catholic church, ato, and the chico river.I agree with one those who comment here that the way you took some pictures are not that good. carry on!! and goodluck.

I would just like to comment on Mr. Marlon Chadsi-ing's comment regarding the bontoc people being "boastful". i would just like to say some may be "boastful" but let us not generalize as not all those i-fontoks are "boastful"...... i am a native of bontoc and i'd say that most are humble....... even the richest people there don't boast of their riches but would rather live as ordinary people...... try to visit the barangays where the natives are located and you will see evidence of what i see.... thank you and have a nice day

Loida, thank you so much for your pics. My family left bontoc in the 60's and I have never gone back to visit. I never realized that it has changed so much. I do not even recognize the streets and samoki anymore. We used to go strolling to the river via a wooden bridge! I cannot believe the growth and feel so bad for so much natural beauty that has been destroyed. I guess we have to pay for the progress. After living in the USA for 40 years I hope to visit soon and see some old timers if they are still around. Thank you again. the pics really made me want to visit and will definitely stay at the hotel where you guys stayed. Although if you go back soon, I wish that you would take pics of the catholic church and school on the other side of town, I heard the old church and high school burned down. thanks and regards to your family.

I wasn't born there but I grew up there. I left Bontoc when I was in high school in 1987 and ever since I always been looking forward for a visit back. As always been, I consider myself "Ifontok"
I was curious to see how the place looks like at this time. I was surfing the net looking for pics and it lead me to your site.
The place looks very different than before. Some of those beautiful rice fields were gone and tall buildings and houses have taken over their place. I'm wondering if the CHICO River was the same very beautiful, clean and clear Chico River where I used to frequent during those days.
I think progress should not be at the expense of neglecting the preservation of the natural beauty of the place.
Thanks for the pics.
