Sad to leave family behind and the beauty of my beloved province; for its rolling valley,river and richness of natural resources.But feeling helpless too that most of our natural source of water been drying up. when i was school kid i bath/shower in the waig idiay Vista Hill o kaya idiay kulokul o idiay magat river kaya batu ferry. ngem ti paburitok ket idiay waig with all the colourful butterflies around me, never mind alintas!!oh how i missed those days. agkalay-at ti bayabas ken papaya idiay arubayan... never mind. our province is beautiful indeed but all of us should look after these greeneries and natural beauty otherwise these beauties will lost if we are not careful. thanks for madam governadora eco preservation and but most of all NGO officials. Before my comments, please allow me to make you smile -which is something that the beautiful Pilipino people do very easily: MY BLOOD IS POLISH, PERO AKO'Y PINOY SA PUSO! So far, my knowledge of my adopted country's language is VERY meager, yet, hopefully, this would improve a lot and soon... Why I say this: ANG MAHAL KO AY PILIPINA! At siya ang window through which I looked out at what is a new world for me, one that I had been blind to. What love does...! An entire nation was introduced to me through my acquaintance with one individual. Any and all other Pilipinos that I would come across, became extensions of her, like brothers, family; the Pinoy mixed in with the "background" began standing out, friends amidst the crowds of "aliens". I have found myself identifying with them as kababaihan, more so than "my own" people -that I have not had that much contact with, anyway, and never felt compelled to associate with the way that I do with my kapatid. This will sum it up: Through one of my new friends in the community, I was introduced to the Philippine Performing Arts of Chicago, a choir, one of a few in the area, and joined them. I did not put forth much effort at all to seriously try to memorize those songs in Tagalog that we were going to sing in public, figuring that I would be able to count on the use of a score and read the lyrics along -no difficulty there at all, for I grew up in Guatemala, speaking Spanish. Yet, close to the first presentation, it became clear that no scores would be used, so I crammed during a week, learning the Pambansang Awit by heart -resorting to tricks of recognition of combinations of sounds in the process of what was like learning a code, like a parrot, for it is an unknown language sa akin. I have to tell you: we sang at the Kasarinlan Ball, just the two national anthems. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE, I felt such spine-tingling patriotism and pride singing a national anthem -I had toyed with the idea of blowing away the minds of the crowd in attendance through reading the Star Spangled Banner and singing the Pambansang Awit by heart, but it could not happen! It was SUCH AN HONOR for me to sing the National Anthem with my friends -and everybody must have been amazed at seeing the Kano singing there, standing out like a sore thumb. I must say that (mahal ko is saying that I am being too mais!) I have all the intentions of moving to the Phil. and, according to mahal ko, eating all the mais in there (lol), as soon as I can retire and have enough retirement funds. I was born in Sta Rosa and grew up there. Actually last May I went home in Bayombong spent one month vacation over there. I grew up in Bayombong and a graduate from St. Mary's High School in 1956. I am currently retired and temporarily staying in Busilac, a Barangay of Bayombong, 6 km south. In January 2008, I attended our class reunion and had met 18 of my former classmates, from originally approximately 100 students from the male and female high school classes, as that time these classes were separated except during school joint festivals. It was an enjoyable and somewhat touching reunion, for everyone of us have aged and sometimes it was difficult to even remember each ones name. Surprisingly, each one has expressed their minds and feelings truely as if we were still in those high days. Someone would say I used to like you before, or you were my crush since you were nice to me. Since I am still strong, a retired mining engineer with geological experience, I am interested to search for gold or other minerals in the province of Nueva Vizcaya, which I think the province has lots of it. I wish I could get some people here to join me in the search to help myself keep busy at this stage of my life and at the same time help in some way the people of the area. I would like to see that the governments would chance to take a look to further improve Bayombong, regarding town planning, sewer and sewage services, poverty solutions and the distribution of wealth. I am impressed at the national government programs concerning, national, town and barrio roads; coverage of electrification, irrigationand and communication; and the formation of the barangay part of government. My siblings and I grew up in this town and have a very good education from the Catholic school. I graduated from St Mary's Girls' High School in 1967. The high school then was only for girls and another building close to the church is the high school for boys only. I went back to Bayombong after 38 years in July, 2004. Fortunately, I was able to see 5 classmates. Some look almost the same, some look weary. The first comment I got was " ibang iba ka na at tumaba ka". My kids who are American born were very happy with our travel. I showed them the old place where I grew up and the old St Mary's school. I wish next year I could visit the place again. My Gaddang parents, Maria Socorro Gatan Lumicao (Angadanan) and Pedro Velasco Liban(Solano)emigrated to the Seattle, Washington in the mid to late 1920's from Solano with plans of returning to their hometown, but they eventually became American Citizens after WWII. My father with other relatives (Ruperto Dumelod Magalued, Juan Gauan, F. Cruz, Tomas Lumicao, Pedro Alayu Busa, Domingo Tottoc, Vicente Ludan)sailed on the American President Liner President Jackson on 4/29/1926. I know of approximately 50 uncles, aunts, and relatives departed Solano from about 1915-1940 for Seattle and San Francisco and many more arrived after WWII. My brother and I were born in Seattle, Washington and my other siblings in San Francisco. My bride and I visited my uncles, aunts, 1st cousins, and relatives in Solano for the first time in 1976. I visited my cousins at their "Liban Sisters" stall at a market place in Bayombong. In 1981 I revisited Solano to obtain family tree information from the older afu's for my Gaddang Tribe Genealogy research which I've be working on for the past 33 years. My cousin Generoso (Geno) Bulan Velasco/Lumicao and I partnered to create our Gaddang Genealogy website in 2002. I was there for about 2 weeks. Each time I went there with my Baket and stay at her house. I was always welcome there as they treat me as part of their family and vice versa. I enjoy everytime I am there. The people in Bayombong is very nice and kind. On my first visit there, I was brought to other places such as Bagio City, the rice terrace, the water fall and so on. My wife is from Bayombong and we have been back the last three years (another trip this year is planned as well). I would not recommend the Highlander unless they have closed their disco or you reeeeally like disco. We stayed there in 2005. Music is way too loud and can be heard throughout the hotel. As a result in 2006 we stayed in Solano and luckily in 2007 we were able to stay in a remodeled room at the family's house.
