Those lampposts I saw along Osmena Blvd. during my early elementary years... also the same along national roads of Lapu-lapu and Mandaue Cities. They're beautiful actually, only to hear all those infamy regarding how overpriced they are bought by our damn corrupt public officials back then, and also seeing many of their light bulbs and wirings were stolen and broken down. What a waste of investment and public derision have those responsible earned for that transaction!

i was impressed by the pics you uploaded.im here in cebu but had not uploaded such a great and exciting pictures. for all those may had seen the ugly side and corruption as they say can you suggest ways on how to curve all you had written about the bad side cebu city had. we are happy to learn from your experience in places you were into. hope you had not experience the same fate we had. but at the end cebu city is a very wonderful place to live in with full of inter-actions among people. happy neighborhood a place where you can put your worries on table with someone who symphatize you. what is unique in this place is the culture and historical significance. cheers to all cebuanos and cebuanas who remain to be helpful and arrogant...

For the most part Cebu City looks like an old city, its sidewalk is crowded with vendors, some beggars, unattended garbage and unnecessary materials laying around, dusty, electric posts blocking the walkways and sidewalks, insuffecient drainage, unregulated billboards (ugly), electric wiring sphaghetti-like (ugly), streets are narrow with potholes, dirty and unregulated public markets, etc. The cause of it all is due to government's negligience, ignorance and corruptions and lack of foresight; unlike a small country like Singapore, Japan etc which are run by smart and honest government. That's where one can easily spot the difference. Crazy huh, the Filipino way, too bad, you local residence, you have to suffer because of their fault!!

Many of the streets and places you have mentioned as taken in downtown Cebu City are actually from places we Cebuanos refer to as already uptown. Downtown and Uptown have special meanings for residents of the city. When you see downtown, you would be referring and would be understood as talking about the older parts of the city - mostly those that were pre-Spanish, like Colon St. to Cebu City Hall and beyond.

I have been to Cebu city once and I really like the place. Hope to visit it again. It is not as busy or full of buildings like Manila neither as laid back as in CDO or Butuan city. The pictures presented here gives a good view of the city, though few more could have been added (e.g.Taoist Temple). Please keep up the nice work!

Hi! I'm from Cebu City. I was born and raised there. I like your pictures very much, thank you. I greatly appreciate your efforts to identify the places in Cebu City. I know that there are inaccuracies but that I can understand. As a foreigner (a visitor) I don't expect you to know all these places. I could not even identify some of the places in your pictures having been away for just 8 years. I hope you are having a great time on your visit and come and see Cebu again.

Met karen on internet and traveled to Cebu to meet her and family in August (She is comng here on K1 visa). I Really love the Philipines. Stayed at Plantation Bay on Mactan Island for a week, then on to Borocay Island for another week. Wonderful people and culture. Thanks for sharing your visit.

I chat a lot on the internet and all I get is how bad it is in the Philippines, I mean for the poor, is it true that a person working in shop selling shoes may make only 30 dollars a week and works 7 days a week? I donate money to the poorest of the poor, (feed the children) christian childrens fund, and others for poor children i africa and indonesia and thru chat, I hear that dead beat dads, when they father a child or two, they just go off remarry and start the process over again leaving the mother to try to go to his employment or work and try to collect child support. Is this true? is there work for the average person if they want to work? does the filipino government help with social services for the poorest of the poor children with food stamps, and any other? are there charities there that will feed the hungry? or am I just being conned.

I just couldn't help but notice some inaccuracies: - Golden Peak hotel is actually in the uptown part of the city, not down town - The "circle" of the city is Fuente Osmeña circle, a chief landmark in the city - The picture with the building labeled "Cebu Woman's Club" is actually showing the Cebu Puericulture and Maternity House and Cebu School of Midwifery - The hotel labeled "Casino Filipino Hotel" is actually the Waterfront Hotel, one of the more expensive and classy hotels here (and yes, it has a casino) - The "Mini castle" in the park (Plaza Independencia) was actually used as a guard's station back in the old days

Pitt of Holland. How you doin? No really, are you being sarcastic about the city or something? I do not find humor in it at all. What do you want to see streets of gold? Amsterdam is not a family destination I am sure with the red light district, however, you do let the people be open with how scummy they are in being open to the public. to all those who have negative critics bout cebu! cebu is a dirty city, there is garbage everywhere except where the mayor is living. i have been living 2 years in cebu , i know every corner. there are streetkids every where and the mayor is looking at the other side. except for the sinolog, than all the beggers and streetkids go to jail so that the tourist dont see the poverty of the city. every walk over is plenty of urine and human discharge! SO ITS A DIRTY CITY

You made very fine Pictures of Cebu City. I lived in Cebu City for 4 months in Borangay Banawa, near the Plaza, and I can say that those Pictures clearly show that Cebu City is a clean city for the most part compared to other Philippine citys. I love Cebu City. Please note that you misspelled "rich" when describing one Hotel. That Hotel is a casino that is why it is so expensive. Philippines great!!

I am from Talisay City, Cebu and my pretty spouse from Dumaguete City. My brothers and sisters have moved to America for more than two decades to escape hardships just like most Pilipinos. My wife and I usually stayed in different hotels here in Cebu to explore the night-life although it is risky to walk around. My wife has a cousin, Atty. Ada Veloso whom we visit at Cebu City hall office where we had a chance to see your mayor Osmena. He is overweight, not good for his health. My spouse and I are planning to visit this year again to see our relatives in Dumaguete and Talisay who love to see us. My comments concerning your photos in the internet have created negative image of Cebu City because they are done by unprofessional photograpers. Before you release them for viewing, make sure they are performed and edited by professional. You should supercede them as soon as possible. Sad if you don't. Sincerely, Sosing and Phoebe Largo
